Portsmouth

Thursday 26th of June

An Afternoon in Portsmouth visiting the Mary Rose

This is a view of the Warrior the first Iron Ship made in the 18th Century. This was taken whilst waiting for Sue to join us after dropping off the car. We then went off the visit the exhibition on the Mary Rose, which was retrieved from the depths of the seas of the Solent between the Isle of Wight and the mainland. It was sunk during the battle between the French and the English in the 16th Century.

The Bell that was retrieved in the salvaging of the relic.

This is a view of the reconstruction of what has been salvaged. It has taken 20 years of spraying the wood with a wax like solution to preserve the molecules of the wood so it wouldn't disintegrate. This has been completed and not it is in its drying phase. It will be 2016 before the drying hoses can be taken away and the viewing platforms will be constructed giving an unobstructed view of the skeleton of the ship. Awesome just awesome!!!
